Chakra

The chakras

If you've ever taken a yoga or meditation class, taken an energy healing session like reiki, or simply watched online videos on these topics, you've probably heard of chakras and the role they play in circulating energy through your body.

You may also have learned that it is important to keep your chakras open, or unblocked.

But what exactly are chakras and how do they affect your physical and emotional well-being?

In this page, we will take a closer look at the main chakras. We'll also explain the impact these energy centers can have on your body and mind, as well as how to keep them "open" in order to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

What are chakras?

In Sanskrit, the word "chakra" means "disc" or "wheel" and refers to the energy centers of your body. These wheels or discs of rotating energy each correspond to certain nerve bundles and major organs.

To function at its best, your chakras must remain open, or balanced. If they are blocked, you may experience physical or emotional symptoms related to a particular chakra.

There are seven main chakras along your spine. They start at the root, or base, of your spine and extend to the top of your head. That said, some people believe that there are at least 114 different chakras in the body.

The most commonly mentioned chakras are the seven main ones that we will explore in more detail below.
